Field Study:

Overview

The Industrial Design program enables students to work with textile materials, experiment, and create different things. The program builds on integrating the creative ideas of design with textile technology and also considers the challenges designers face today.

This program prepares the students/ future engineers for a fashion and textile industry career and introduces them to the production techniques and business practices needed to implement competitive manufacturing systems for today’s global marketplace.

Why study ID at TUIASI

Design Fundamentals for Textile Innovation
Apply fundamental principles and theory for the development of new textile products.
Material Selection Expertise
Make informed decisions on materials for textile product design by acquiring and applying specific technical information related to materials and manufacturing processes.
Innovative Integration in Textile Engineering
Innovate textile products by integrating multidisciplinary textile engineering knowledge with management, marketing, work organization, and business communication.
Adaptability to Technological Changes
Adapt to diverse and complex technological changes through continuous lifelong learning, ensuring the integration of the latest developments into the textile development process.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Work effectively in interdisciplinary teams, negotiating and managing relationships with external partners in the textile industry.
Problem Analysis and Solution
Analyze and solve design problems by understanding product end-use conditions, evaluating functions, proposing alternative design solutions, and assessing their viability.

Study Experience

The curriculum encourages the connection and sharing of making, thinking, and prototyping. A critical understanding of methods, forms, materials, and processes is encouraged through courses, practical activities, excellent good practices examples, and projects.

Also, there is an emphasis on learning specialist software to explore digital and non-traditional approaches to design, fabric structures, and apparel products, including garments.

Students will complete the program by elaborating on the graduation project. In this project, they integrate multidisciplinary textile knowledge for designing and producing new textile prototypes by transforming ideas and abstract concepts into 3D final products, choosing proper materials, and manufacturing processes. Students are given a large amount of freedom in their choice of inspirational themes.

The proposed program targets the following objectives:

Train engineers with specialized abilities, skills, and attitudes to tackle challenges in the clothing and textile industry.
Address problems related to products, processes, and services, emphasizing the design, development, and management of integrated systems.
Manage the integration of people, materials, equipment, and information within the clothing and textile industry.
Prepare graduates for comprehensive roles in finding solutions across various aspects of integrated systems, ensuring a well-rounded skill set.

The student will acquire knowledge and skills in basic sciences together with modern methods of engineering for designing and developing innovative textile products, as well as the use of dedicated CAD/CAM 2D and 3D software for clothing and, textiles and leather in order to translate textile concepts into marketable products, to predict and evaluate product quality and its utility in the customer’s life.
