The mission of the program is to achieve excellence in Civil Engineering education, research, and professional service, with the goal of training qualified specialists capable of performing a variety of tasks, from design to monitoring the construction process during their lifetime. At the same time, the program enhances the possibility of obtaining the necessary skills to initiate and develop research activities in the field of Civil Engineering in the context of sustainable development.
The Civil Engineering program offers students the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills specific to the civil engineering profession. In addition, by studying in a foreign language, graduates get more chances of insertion into both the national and international labor market.
It is expected to make investments in the development of new production capacities for an increased efficiency of both material and human resources costs, in the context of an economy based on sustainable principles. Civil engineers may supervise, design, or manage all types of construction related activities.
Students will have the opportunity to learn principles of Engineering, Science, and Mathematics, thus enabling later them to acquire the proper conceptual design and analysis skills for various types of Civil Engineering structures.
During the application classes, students will get familiar with various dedicated software for graphical design, analytical or numerical modeling, with computer-aided programs for managing the economic part of a technical project. During the laboratory work, by means of the experimental activities, students will understand the behavior of different building materials.
Each year of study also includes professional internships that aim to provide students with the competencies and abilities needed in the professional field. Students will participate in study visits on complex construction sites under the guidance of civil engineers.
The curriculum comprises fundamental disciplines in the first two years (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry), and in the last two years a large number of specialized disciplines such as Mechanics, Building Materials, Earthquake Engineering, Geotechnics and Foundations, Civil Buildings, Concrete, Steel and Timber Structures, Composite Construction Materials and Elements, Technology and Management of Construction Works.
The Civil Engineering program follows the demands of the labor market and its curriculum is adapted as an education program opened to the new trends of knowledge-based society. The first two years of study provide graduates with complex, rigorous, and interdisciplinary training, which combines theoretical and applied aspects, in order to form fundamental professional skills.
The last two years of studies offer graduates the opportunity to deepen significant aspects of specialization and broaden their theoretical, scientific, and technical horizons of the profession. Specific scientific and managerial knowledge useful for scientific research and for graduates of these university studies gives the opportunity to hold elite positions in the relevant institutions and companies.
Graduation of the university bachelor’s degree program Civil engineering in English leads to a qualification corresponding to Level 6 qualification in the European Framework of Qualifications (EQF), a qualification certified by a university degree, completed by the diploma supplement.
