The Industrial Design program enables students to work with textile materials, experiment, and create different things. The program builds on integrating the creative ideas of design with textile technology and also considers the challenges designers face today.
This program prepares the students/ future engineers for a fashion and textile industry career and introduces them to the production techniques and business practices needed to implement competitive manufacturing systems for today’s global marketplace.
The curriculum encourages the connection and sharing of making, thinking, and prototyping. A critical understanding of methods, forms, materials, and processes is encouraged through courses, practical activities, excellent good practices examples, and projects.
Also, there is an emphasis on learning specialist software to explore digital and non-traditional approaches to design, fabric structures, and apparel products, including garments.
Students will complete the program by elaborating on the graduation project. In this project, they integrate multidisciplinary textile knowledge for designing and producing new textile prototypes by transforming ideas and abstract concepts into 3D final products, choosing proper materials, and manufacturing processes. Students are given a large amount of freedom in their choice of inspirational themes.
The student will acquire knowledge and skills in basic sciences together with modern methods of engineering for designing and developing innovative textile products, as well as the use of dedicated CAD/CAM 2D and 3D software for clothing and, textiles and leather in order to translate textile concepts into marketable products, to predict and evaluate product quality and its utility in the customer’s life.
As an engineer (Bachelor of Engineering), you will have a wide range of career opportunities. The studies include a diverse perspective on design, technology, and business management which will give you a good background to work in demanding tasks.
Your studies, including practical training, will help you to find your own career path and professional interests, such as designer, technician, production, operational planning and development engineer, and business management, e.g. sales of technological products and services.

The Faculty of Industrial Design and Business Management (DIMA; the former was the Faculty of Textiles, Leather, and Industrial Management ) is one of the 11th faculties of TUIASI. The Faculty organizes three study levels (bachelor, master, and doctorate) for three domains (Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Industrial Management) and seven textile specialisations.
The Faculty of DIMA is known at the European and national levels for its high-quality study programs in textile, knitting, industrial design, chemical finishing, clothing, leather, footwear, etc management.
The Faculty has Romania’s only certified doctoral study program for textile, clothing, and footwear. Also, the Faculty is offering technological transfer, research, consultancy, and training support. The Faculty has a strong connection with the industry, and over the years, it has created effective networking with the business community.
Currently, the Faculty is a member of the following professional bodies and international academic networks: AUTEX – Association of Universities for Textile, Belgium; CEEMAN – Central and Eastern European Management Development Association, Slovenia; EURATEX- European Apparel and Textile Confederation, Belgium.
Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi, with the oldest engineering education tradition in Romania, is dedicated to developing technology for the community through research, teaching, and technology transfer.
